American Heart Association CPR/First Aid Certification

Taught by Daniel Furphy

CPR saves lives. Statistics show that the earlier CPR is initiated, the greater the chances of survival. In fact, the American Heart Association estimates that 100,000 to 200,000 lives of adults and children could be saved each year if CPR were performed early enough. Learning First Aid can be a critical skill to respond and manage an emergency in the first few minutes until emergency medical services (EMS) arrives. Discuss skills such as how to treat choking, bleeding, shock, allergic reactions, seizures and other first aid emergencies.

Each workshop participant will receive a two year CPR certification card from the American Heart Association and special focus will be provided on Pediatric and Infant CPR. First Aid Basics will be discussed (time permitting), our instructor will focus on First Aid Emergencies specific to Pediatric Patients and Infants. The instructor will encourage participants to provide situational emergencies and provide discussion on an appropriate response. No certification is offered for First Aid

Babywearing 101

with Britni Morley

Babywearing 101 is taught by Britni Morley, owner of Wrap Me Tender. Britni is a Certified Babywearing Educator through the Center for Babywearing Studies. Babywearing is an invaluable skill, tool, and bonding experience. Learning about babywearing is as essential and helpful as any other parenting or breastfeeding class.

Babywearing is not a new concept. In fact, mothers around the world have worn their babies for centuries. Babies instinctual feel safest and happiest when they are held, but in today’s commercialized world of strollers and playpens, the bond that babywearing allows has gotten lost. Wrap Me Tender is dedicated to promoting and celebrating that precious connection!

Many new parents might feel limited to choose a baby carrier that a big box store sells. Often, the selection is limited and those carriers are uncomfortable. It is Britni’s goal to share with parents that there are many more comfortable, safe, and ergonomic options for wearing your baby. She specializes in woven wraps, and also offers ring slings, and mei tais.

In Babywearing 101, you will learn about the physiology and history of babywearing, benefits of babywearing, demonstrations of types of carriers, and safety.

Yoga-Nidra

with Jen Kowal

Come to an evening of restorative self care. Are you tired, strung out, stressed out? Or are you just looking to add relaxation into your life? Join us for an evening of “the sleep that awakens”
Yoga nidra is a sleep-based meditation technique. It’s a unique combination of alert awareness and deep relaxation. Many people refer to is as “the art of conscious relaxation.”

Physically it balances the nervous system, restructures the brain, and allows the body to restore from what yogis call the 4th dimension, a place where deep restoration and self-healing is possible.

Yoga nidra meditation is so simple to grasp that even people with no yoga or meditation background can easily use it and receive all the benefits.

Evidence Based Birth Workshop for Expecting Parents

with Cindy Calvano, AAHCC, CD, EBBI, LLLL, MSEd

Did you know that birth plans are rarely followed? The truth is, many expecting parents *know* what kind of care they want during their birth, but in the end they don’t know how to get it!

The solution?? You are invited to an exclusive Evidence Based Birth workshop for expecting parents. In this workshop, you will learn the Six Essential Steps of HOW to get evidence based care during your birth.

What will be covered in the workshop? We will talk all about evidence based care—what it is, what it isn’t, and how to talk with your provider about it! You will also learn how to make sure your birth setting and provider will be supportive of your wishes, and how to educate yourself and gather your support team. Also, you will learn about the legal rights of people giving birth, and this is information every expecting parent absolutely must know, period.

The workshop will be a small, interactive class with plenty of opportunity for discussion and questions. Refreshments will be provided.

This Evidence Based Birth Workshop does not replace childbirth education classes. Instead, the resources you will gain at this workshop are the missing link for those of you who want evidence based care but are worried about your wishes and decisions not being respected when you actually go into labor.

Moms, Birthing persons and their birth partner are invited to attend! Don’t wait to register–this class is open to only 8 couples in the Montclair, NJ/NYC area!

Birth professionals are now permitted to attend the workshop and there are GREAT benefits for you too. Every birth pro or care provider who attends OR who refers a client to attend will receive a free 30-day trial of the EBB professional membership, where they will have 30 days to earn all the CEUs EBB currently has to offer (right now we have 10 contact hours)!

Limit one free month per professional. Clients must mention you referred them.
